NEKO X JAMES is a collaboration of four pop singles written and produced by multi-platinum producer NEKO (aka Erik Lidbom) and K-pop turned pop star, JAMES. Between the two, they’ve charted over 150 times, performed for tens of thousands of fans, placed top 10 on the Billboard world charts, sold over 45 million units and accrued millions of Spotify streams.
NEKO and JAMES met when NEKO was asked to produce the popular K-pop act Royal Pirates, in which JAMES was the bassist. However, a freak accident nearly cost JAMES his left hand and forced him to quit the band. After five surgeries, he was fortunate to keep his hand but was told by his doctors and specialists he would never play again. This wasn’t an option for JAMES.
While in recovery mode, JAMES pulled together a Kickstarter campaign, to fund his comeback solo EP, “The Light.” His fanbase held true and he more than tripled his $27k goal, raising nearly $90k. Through intensive therapy and a relentless mindset, “The Light” was released in 2018. With features from some of the most successful K-pop artists of all time, Sooyoung of Girls’ Generation & Amber Liu of f(x), it has accumulated millions of streams and hit #1 in two countries and top 10 in many more. JAMES’ story is one of resilience and unwavering ambition.
